Heinz Kucharski

(22 Juli 1919 - ?)

Heinz Kucharski was a student at the Lichtwark-Schule, just as were Traute Lafrenz, Margaretha Rothe, and Karl Ludwig Schneider. Kucharski was interested in comparing different socialistic ideas, and studied philosophy, ethnology, and eastern studies. He organised readings, where political writings were discussed. Together with Margaretha Rothe, he printed and distributed slips of paper that made the frequency of the forbidden "Voice of America" radio station known.

Near the end of 1942, he had received a copy of the third leaflet of the White Rose, and it had been discussed in a certain circle of friends of his, in particular Rothe, a bookstore owner by the name of Hannelore Willbrandt, Albert Suhr, and Reinhold Meyer.

Kucharski was arrested on 9 November 1943, along with his mother, Hildegard Heinrichs.

Sentenced to death, Kucharski was able to escape from the train bringing him to Bützow-Dreibergen - the place where he was to be executed - due to Allied bombing in the area.
